Im Jahre 1985 demonstrierte Greenpeace gegen französische Kernwaffentests auf dem Mururoa-Atoll, als am 10. Juli im Hafen von Auckland eine Bombe ein Loch in die Schiffswand ihrer "Rainbow Warrior" riss. Ein Besatzungsmitglied starb.
